BRITAIN NEEDS CARBON STRATEGY - LORD EZRA1.17.25pm BST (GMT +0100) Wed 22nd Oct 2003
Lord (Derek) Ezra, Liberal Democrat Energy Spokesman, will today question why the Government does not have a long-term carbon management strategy. Lord Ezra will say: "The Government should be pursuing an integrated carbon management strategy to deal with climate change. "So far its approach has been patchy. "Ministers have not given enough support to many renewable energy sources, and still less to other ways of reducing carbon emissions, such as Combined Heat and Power (including micro-CHP which is suitable for homes), methane recovery from coal mines and clean coal technology. "Even the United States and Canada are vigorously pursuing a wide-ranging carbon management strategy. It's time for Britain to take action too." Notes Lord Ezra's Starred Question: To ask Her Majesty's Government whether they consider that the United Kingdom should develop a long term carbon management strategy, including fossil fuels, as recommended in the Report of the Department of Trade and Industry Technology Service Mission to the United States and Canada.
