NOT THE TIME FOR GM MAIZE DECISION - GEORGE1.13.50pm GMT Tue 11th Nov 2003
Commenting on the decision by EU officials to postpone a vote on genetically modified sweetcorn, which would have effectively ended the EU moratorium on GM products, Andrew George MP, Liberal Democrat Shadow Rural Affairs Secretary said: "This decision was too close for comfort. Unless the Government is careful, we could easily sleepwalk into making crucial decisions on GM without properly taking into account all of the evidence. "We must avoid hasty decisions and wait until the necessary evidence is in place before a decision based on sound science can be made."
