SCOTLAND: Brown calls for promotion of new green energy invention

Robert Brown, Scottish Liberal Democrat MSP for Glasgow, has called for the promotion of domestic wind turbines to guarantee Scotland's position at the vanguard of the renewable energy industry.

In a motion lodged in Parliament today Robert Brown also recognised Scotland's role as a pioneer in renewable energy.

Mr Brown said:

"Scotland is at the forefront of the renewable energy revolution and I am calling on the Scottish Parliament to recognise the development by a Scottish company of the world's first domestic wind turbine.

"Scotland already has the world's first commercial wave power station and marine energy testing centre and we are now set to continue our success in this area.

"I am also calling on the Scottish Executive to ensure that these types of developments are promoted for use in public buildings and homes and to further advance their commitment to our huge potential for renewable energy.

"We need to make sure that we all make the best use of our scarce natural resources. This type of development is particularly significant for our power hungry cities to guarantee that Scotland has a safe and sustainable future."

Robert Brown: Domestic Wind Turbines-That the Parliament welcomes the development by the Glasgow company Windsave of the world's first domestic wind turbine; notes that the turbine simply plugs into the mains and can reduce average electricity domestic bills by 15%; welcomes the fact that Scotland continues to be in the vanguard of developing renewable energy technology including the world's first commercial wave power station and marine energy testing centre, and believes that the Scottish Executive should promote this and other small-scale renewable energy devices for public buildings, households and private companies to deliver the commitment in A Partnership for a Better Scotland to ensure that new homes and public buildings increasingly incorporate solar power or other renewable energy sources.
