Tyler reports from flood-hit North Cornwall

12.00.00am BST (GMT +0100) Mon 16th Aug 2004

Reporting from the flash flood hit town of Boscastle in North Cornwall, local Liberal Democrat MP Paul Tyler said:

"We have been struck by the most torrential rain for over an hour causing flash flooding. The pretty coastal village of Boscastle, full of visitors at this time of year, has been particularly hard hit. I am now just a couple of miles away from the village stuck in floods on the main Atlantic Highway.

"I understand nearby villages have been much worse affected. Some cars have been swept away and I am extremely worried about residents, especially the elderly, very young, frail and infirm."
