Government cannot be trusted to look after the environment - Baker12.00.00am BST (GMT +0100) Tue 31st Aug 2004
Commenting on reports that nuclear waste from power stations abroad has been sealed in concrete and buried in the UK, Liberal Democrat Shadow Environment Secretary, Norman Baker MP, said: "This is a disgrace. We have enough dangerous nuclear waste of our own without scooping in other countries' waste. "The Treasury and Department of Trade and Industry do not mind endangering the environment as they attempt to reduce the horrendous amount of taxpayers' money that the nuclear industry loses. "This government cannot be trusted to tell the truth, look after the environment or deal with the nuclear industry in any sort of sensible way."
