Commenting on the publication of new Carbon Emission figures by area Liberal Democrat Shadow Environment Secretary Norman Baker MP said:

"Whilst it is encouraging that local authorities are now publishing a breakdown of the impact of their own area upon climate change, it is concerning to note that these figures are once again being released late on a Friday afternoon, in the hope that no-one will notice.

"Action at local level can only successfully deliver emissions cuts with leadership from national Government. As a country we are going backwards not forwards in meeting our carbon and greenhouse gas targets. The Government cannot expect local authorities to cut their emissions levels without leadership from the centre.
