Campbell wins praise from Greenpeace and WWF for green speech11.50.10am BST (GMT +0100) Sun 30th Apr 2006
Greenpeace's Executive Director Stephen Tindale says of Ming's latest environment speech: "Ming Campbell has set the gold standard for green speeches". Speaking in response to the Lib Dem Leader's keynote speech on the environment in Norwich, he said Greenpeace endorsed Ming's challenge to the other parties, adding, "there's too much talk from New Labour and not yet enough substance from the Conservatives." Keith Allott, head of Climate Change at WWF-UK, also praised the speech, saying: "Sir Menzies' speech shows that he has grasped the need for urgent action to tackle climate change." Chris Huhne, Shadow Environment Secretary, responded, "It is great to gain endorsements from the WWF and Greenpeace. Lib Dems are honest enough to accept that individual behaviour must change in order to halt climate change. We are the only party campaigning for an increase in environmental tax, while allowing other taxes to fall, to bring about this change."
