4X4 should not be a fashion accessory - Baker

20 Aug 2004

Commenting on research published today showing that four wheel drives could have severe consequences on the environment, Norman Baker MP, Liberal Democrat Shadow Environment Secretary, said:

"For most people a 4x4 is a fashion accessory and it is interesting that the highest percentage of owners are located in London where they are needed least.

"Farmers and those in rural areas may need these vehicles but most owners are being selfish and leaving an unnecessarily large footprint on the earth."
